Obstetrics & Gynaecology

We provide a comprehensive service that caters for women preconceptionally, during pregnancy and delivery as well as during the 6-week period following delivery. Our neonatal services are designed to provide easy access, comfort and convenience to the nursing mothers and their families during this vital period of their lives. We are a baby-friendly facility and we encourage breast-feeding in the first 6 months of life unless patient-specific circumstances preclude this most beneficial practice.

All labour cases are assigned to a personal care midwife on admission to the delivery suite which is equipped with standard delivery beds, one of which is the ultra-modern Affinity 4 Birthing bed fitted with cardiotocograph for monitoring mothers and the unborn child. In addition, each midwife is provided with a pocket fetal Doppler for fetal cardiac monitoring. Newborns are promptly evaluated on delivery. Staff trained in neonatal resuscitation are always present if a need for such intervention arises. Basic resuscitation materials are also available.

There is a neonatal unit equipped with an incubator and an ultramodern phototherapy unit. The Ultra BiliLight 220 device delivers up to 12 times more phototherapy treatments than any other device in the market. With the PEP bed Bililight phototherapy delivery system, exchange blood transfusions are almost never necessary, even for the most severely jaundiced neonates.

Adult Medicine

We run a robust general outpatient service that caters for many of the primary and secondary care needs of our adult clients. Our in-patient facility also provides ample resources to help you navigate illness successfully and recuperate in a warm and caring environment. We continue to recognize how busy and economically vibrant many of our clients are and are committed to providing appropriate care in a timely and orderly manner.

Family Practice

This is at the core of our services. We run a ‘full-spectrum’ family practice that consistently and comprehensively caters to the needs of majority of our clients at the initial visit. Our clients also benefit richly from our strong network of local and international specialists, many of whom are leading scholars in their fields of expertise.

Surgical Services

We provide a robust general adult and paediatric surgical service in collaboration with a dedicated team of local and international surgeons.

Our competence covers acute surgical problems and lingering surgical issues that may require out-patient investigation and elective surgical interventions, all performed in a well equiped, surgical-ready theatre.

Geriatric Medicine

Our practice has seen an immense growth in consultation of geriatric patients over the years and has developed a wealth of knowledge and expertise in the management of their peculiar problems.

We provide geriatric services in an atmosphere that ensures the gentle and empathetic care that our elders need in a culturally-sensitive manner and we work with specialists to manage the multiple complex problems that some of our clients may present with.

Imaging

We provide ultrasound services with 3-dimensional output and colour doppler capabilities in general abdominal, urological, obstetrics and gynecological modalities. We perform trans-rectal ultrasound scans (TRUS) for prostate evaluations on request.

We undertake routine obstetric scans including detailed fetal anomaly scans when indicated. We also perform Saline Infusion Sono-Hysterography (SIS) on request or when indicated for our registered patients. Transvaginal ultrasound scans are also perfomed for routine obstetric and gynecological investigations and in assisted conception to monitor ovulation and timing of intrauterine insemination (IUI).

All images are stored in video format for further referencing at a later time. Therefore, complex images requiring additional interpretation or opinion are promptly forwarded to offsite experts (telemedicine) for detailed interpretation.

Pediatric Services

Supported by a rich network of paediatric specialists, we provide a comprehensive range of services to children across the spectrum of paediatric illnesses from infancy through adolescence in a friendly setting. Our healthcare professionals are trained to provide expedient and appropriate care to children of school age to minimize absenteeism from necessary academic exploits.

Emergency Services

We run a 24hours-a-day, 7-days-a-week emergency service that is fully supported by a dedicated team of health professionals, laboratory support and imaging services where necessary. Appropriate referral is also provided when indicated.

Travel Medicine

International and Travel Health has become increasingly relevant to healthcare delivery in Nigeria, given the tremendous international traffic across our borders on a daily basis. Kwara State has had its fair share of local travelers and particularly, international visitors. Olanrewaju Hospital is uniquely positioned to provide related services and has a track record of excellence in delivery of related clinical care and research in travel/international medicine.

Dr. Idowu Olanrewaju is a recipient of a number of travel fellowships and has been clinical consultant to a number of international organizations over the years. He is a fellow of the Royal Society of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene and has authored an article in the Journal of Travel Medicine. Our local and international clients are also assured specialist care where indicated given our rich network of national and international consultants in multiple specialties, who are leading scholars in their fields.

Our services include but are not limited to pre-travel consultation, vaccinations, malaria prevention and treatment. Travel kits will be recommended on a case-by-case basis where necessary.

Referral Services

Referral service is integral to the practice of family medicine. Despite our rich network of consultants and specialists, we recognize that we cannot and will not always meet the healthcare needs of all of our clients all the time and are committed to first and foremost, the welfare of our clients. We, therefore, refer patients for specialist care whenever indicated in a convenient and timely manner.

Facilities

There are 30 beds for inpatients which include single rooms, double rooms and general wards. In-patients enjoy 24-hour uninterrupted power supply and borehole treated water. Patient comfort is assured by dedicated and friendly house-keeping staff that also ensure a very clean environment.

The laboratory is equipped to provide basic and advanced services in chemical pathology, haematology/blood bank, microbiology and parasitology. We have the bacteriological lab and we continue to acquire, replace and renew laboratory equipments to meet standards, cater to our patients' needs and advance professional practices.

Our in-house pharmacy caters for most of our patient’s pharmaceutical needs relieving them of the stress of purchasing their medications for external vendors.

We are involved in basic clinical and laboratory research relevant to local, Nigerian and African health issues. The Malaria Resource Centre, a research enterprise arm of the hospital has to its credit, published a number of papers in international reputable journals.
